A video editor in Claude Code or Codex.
$99 once. Runs on your Mac.
Nightcut turns Claude Code or Codex on your Mac into a video editor. Send a raw recording with one message: in 20–45 minutes the edited video is ready, then the best shorts, covers and posts scheduled on YouTube and Instagram.
$99 once, when it ships. Reserving is free.
Grigory Tal, who made it: “It has edited every video on my channel since June. A podcast studio in Tel Aviv bought it after one demo.”
Edit this video, cut the best shorts, make covers, post them three a day.

What are Claude Code and Codex?
Claude Code (by Anthropic) and Codex (by OpenAI) are AI apps for your Mac. You chat in plain words; they do the work on your computer.
Nightcut is the folder of video tools they use. No code. You need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan.
By hand: 20 hours. With Nightcut: one message.

After my talk, someone asked how I edit now:

I say: ‘Go, baby.’ … and in twenty minutes it’s done.
How we counted
- Edit the long video3 hClaude
- Find and cut 33 shorts11 hClaude
- Titles and descriptions2.5 hClaude
- Three covers to test1 hClaude
- Upload and schedule2.5 hClaude
You or an editor, at the low end of editors’ and creators’ own estimates. It cuts clips and leaves you the long edit and the sorting. Titles, covers and posting left out: its best case. One message from you. Claude or Codex edits the long video in 20–45 minutes, then the shorts, best first.
Counted for my 47-minute solo video of 23 September.
It cuts the long video like an editor would.
It reads your recording like a script: keeps the best take, drops false starts, filler and dead air.
Done. 15 seconds of stumbles out.
48:17 → 38:33That was 29 seconds of my Tel Aviv talk.
The whole talk came out 10 minutes shorter.
How it decides what to cut
“…in Russian they sound amazing.”
“So yeah, this is my YouTube channel, and, um, two weeks ago, a podcast studio in Tel Aviv,” False start
“uh…” Dead air, 5 seconds
“So, so I need to do something. Like this. Perfect. Okay.” Fiddling with the clicker
“So two weeks ago, a podcast studio in Tel Aviv bought my whole production system… that I built with AI.” The retake stays
It edits your words like a script and keeps the best take. A second agent checks the cut, and code listens to every joint: no doubled word, no clipped ending.
Tighter or looser? Say so in one line.
More than one camera? It cuts between them.
It switches angles on the pauses, the way a live director would. The sound stays one clean take.
Done. Three cameras, one sound.
My talk in Tel Aviv: three cameras, one take of sound. Two cameras or five, it works the same.
Watch the whole edit, 38 minutesIt finds every possible short.
Keeps only the best.
A separate AI judge watches each one cold, like a stranger in the feed, and throws out the weak ones itself. You never sort a pile.
Kept the 33 worth posting, best first.

“A rule every freelancer will forward: no date means no.”

I asked Claude to act like the hero of Suits
“All setup, no payoff: we never learn what Claude did.”
How the judge decides
Four AI readers bring 65 moments. A separate judge scores each one cold, like a stranger in the feed.
Under 3.5, it’s out, and of two cuts of one moment the stronger stays. No quota: you get as many as the video deserves.
Captions, titles, graphics. Just ask.
One sentence, and every short is redone at once.
Done. Redid every short.
Done. Yellow, each with its title.
Done. Numbers come up behind you.
Covers too.
As many as you ask for.
Three to test on YouTube, or ten to pick from. Each one starts from a frame of your video.
Done. Five to pick from.
Codex draws them out of the box. In Claude Code, you connect an image model once.
And it posts them for you.
Connect YouTube and Instagram once. Then every short goes out by itself, with a title it wrote.
Done. Your next 11 days are set.

I hate editing.
Hours of watching myself stumble, hunting for the one good minute. So I taught Claude to do it. Now I record, write one message and go for a walk.
In my talk, after a podcast studio bought the system:

This system exists for a stupid reason: I hate editing videos.
Not another AI clipper.
A clipper hands you a pile of clips. Nightcut edits the whole video from one message.

Missing a tool? It writes one.
Ask for the result in plain words. If the kit has no tool for it, your AI writes one, uses it and keeps it for every next video. You never touch code.
Done. The tool stays in your kit.
Click a tool to see what it does.Tap a tool to see what it does.
I asked Claude to put a podcast and its slides into one video. It said: “I don’t have a tool for it.” So I gave it a rule:

If a tool is missing, write the tool.
Logo in the corner
Written the first time I asked for it. It puts my logo in the corner of every short.
Now it’s part of the kit: every next video gets it too.
Your next tool
Ask for a result the kit can’t make yet. You never touch code: you get the result, and the kit gets a new tool.
Mine so far: the logo in the corner, and a podcast with its slides in one video.
Cut the video
“…in Russian they sound amazing.”
“So yeah, this is my YouTube channel, and, um…”False start
“uh…”Dead air
“So, so I need to do something. Like this. Perfect.”Clicker
“So two weeks ago, a podcast studio in Tel Aviv bought my whole production system.”The retake stays
It reads your recording like a script, keeps the best take and drops false starts, filler and dead air. 29 seconds became 14.
Every cut lands between words, so nothing is clipped.
Switch cameras
With two cameras or more, it cuts between them on the pauses, like a live director.
The sound stays one clean take.
Find the shorts
Four AI readers comb the whole transcript, each hunting for something else.
That was one 47-minute solo video of mine. Then the judge goes through all 65.
Judge the shorts
A separate AI scores every moment cold, like a stranger in the feed, and has to quote the words that earn the score.
Below the bar, it’s out. My 47-minute solo video kept 33 of 65.
Frame the face
Every short comes out vertical, with your face held steady in the frame.
With several cameras it cuts between real angles; two people get two faces, one above the other.
Captions
Captions phrase by phrase, in the style you ask for, and a title at the start if you want one.
Change it in one line: every short is redone.
Covers
Draws cover options for YouTube, different ideas to test against each other.
Codex draws them out of the box; in Claude Code you connect an image model once.
Posting
Writes the titles and descriptions and schedules the shorts at your hours, best first.
You connect YouTube and Instagram once.
Level the sound
Brings the long video and every short to one loudness, so nothing is too quiet or too loud.
Your shorts play as loud as everything else in the feed, without sounding squashed.
Three steps. Then you just talk.
No app to learn, no timeline. Your AI does the installing.

Questions
What are Claude Code and Codex?
The AI apps you chat with: Claude Code from Anthropic, Codex from OpenAI. You write what you want in plain words, and they do the work on your Mac. If you use either one already, you’re set.
What exactly is Nightcut?
A folder of editing tools and instructions for your AI. Open it in Claude Code or Codex, and your AI becomes a video editor that works on your Mac. You talk to it in plain words. No new app, no timeline.
Do I need to code?
No. You write to it the way you’d brief an editor. Even the setup is one message: your AI installs what it needs and asks before each step. Give it up to an hour, once.
What does it cost on top?
A paid Claude or ChatGPT plan, from $20 a month. Transcripts run on ElevenLabs: about 4.5 free hours of audio a month, then about $0.22 an hour. Covers in Claude Code use your own image-model key; Codex draws them without one. Cutting and rendering happen on your Mac and don’t touch your plan.
Will it work with my footage?
Any video your Mac plays: iPhone, mirrorless or webcam, 1080p or 4K. One file per camera, any number of cameras. My longest so far: a two-hour podcast on two cameras.
Which languages?
Any. Most of my videos are in Russian, my talk in Tel Aviv was in English, and it edits both the same way, captions included.
How long does it take?
20–45 minutes for the long video. The shorts come right after it, best first. Your part is one message.
Do I have to stay at my Mac?
No, go for a walk. Just keep your Mac plugged in and awake while it works: on a MacBook, leave the lid open. Then come back to the finished video.
What if I don’t like the edit?
Say so in one line: “cut it tighter”, “keep the intro”, “find better shorts”. It redoes it. One more message is usually all it takes.
Will it post without asking me?
No. Posting stays off until you connect YouTube and Instagram, once. Then it posts only what you asked for, at the hours you picked.
What about TikTok?
Every short is a file on your Mac, so you can post it anywhere. Automatic posting covers YouTube and Instagram.
Where does my video go?
It stays on your Mac: cutting, framing, captions and rendering all happen there. Only the audio goes to ElevenLabs for the transcript, and your AI works from that text.
Does it work on Windows?
No. It needs a Mac with Apple Silicon, M1 or newer.
When does it ship?
It already edits every video on my channel; now I’m packaging it for your Mac. The first 30 reservations get it first, for $99 instead of $249: I’ll email you a payment link the day it’s ready. Until then you pay nothing.
What if it doesn’t work for me?
Tell your AI what went wrong: it knows every tool inside and fixes most problems on the spot. If it still doesn’t work for you, you have 14 days to get your money back.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once and it’s yours: every video you’ll ever make. A year of updates is included, and your copy keeps working after that.
Your next video is one message away.
Free to reserve. You pay $99 once, when it ships. 14-day refund.
